The 25th Anniversary of Blue's Clues: Steve Sends a Heartfelt Message to Millennials and Gen Z
This week 25 years ago, the very first episode of Blue's Clues aired on Nick Jr. If you were a kid in the 90s and early 2000s, you probably remember the heartbreaking moment, in 2002, when the original host of the show told us he was "going off to college" and leaving Blue, and us, with his brother Joe. He signed off for the final time by saying "Thanks again for all your help."
Steve hosted the show for 6 years, followed by Joe for another 4 years, until the show ended in 2006. The show rebooted back in 2019 with a new host, Josh Dela Cruz. The show now named "Blue's Clues & You!," has Steve as a writer and director, while also making some guest appearances. The original show's second host Donovan Patton (Joe) also has made some guest appearances, and they both participated in the casting of Dela Cruz.
Recently the show has been able to gain a lot of social media traction, having all three hosts get together in short videos to celebrate the 25th anniversary. In one particular video, Steve addressed his abrupt leave of the show 19 years ago.
The video currently has 36.5 million views on Twitter alone.
To close out the video Steve said: "I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you...ever. And I'm super glad we're still friends." And the internet has been struggling to hold back its tears, immediately trending both Steve and Blue's Clues.
We never forgot you either Steve and we're glad the generation of kids now are getting to grow up with their own relationship with Blue just like we did. 💙🐶
