Zendaya, The Next Generation's Filmmaker? Representation Matters
Zendaya, the multi-talented actress and Gen Z icon is the cover star for British Vogue's October 2021 Issue.
To this opportunity Zendaya responds on twitter that she is "So incredibly grateful <3"
In the Interview, the star talks about her past with Disney, timelines and future ambitions.
One of those is filmmaking and directing.
During the interview Zendaya was asked, "Does she think about what she might tell her future children about what it’s like being black in America in this moment? She sighs. “I mean, that’s a big question. I don’t know – I don’t know what I’m going to tell them. Hopefully, they’ll be able to look at what I’ve done and my body of work and see it.” Art, she believes, is “a huge catalyst for change.
If I ever do become a film-maker, I know that the leads of my films will always be black women.”
And that’s certainly on her list. On set, she likes to sit near the monitors and ask questions about storyboarding shots. “I gotta hurry up and figure out how to f**king become a director, man. I’m trying, I’m learning every day, I really am. There’s so much I want to do.” Levinson predicts she’ll be “an astonishing film-maker”.
For now and the future, more representation in media matters.
